Executives crossing borders

Developing a portfolio of international managers is an oft-sought strategy for multinational companies

To build a portfolio of future leaders and international executives, many companies send out their best and brightest expecting them to use the brilliance and tenacity which made them successful in their home culture to be successful abroad, as well.

Depending on the company culture, the nature of the assignment and the amount of support or coaching provided,

  • each individual expatriot executive has a 35-40% chance of succeeding.
  • in our experience, executives moving from a large market to a smaller market, e.g. from the US to the UK, are much less likely to succeed than those who move from smaller to larger markets, e.g. from Italy to the UK.
  • those moving from a headquarters environment to a region have more difficulty than those moving the other direction.

We would like to discuss with you how we can increase the chances of success for individuals and teams in your company who are leaving their home cultures to serve your business abroad.
